2016 FIAT 500X Earns Top Safety Pick+

And just when we thought FIAT couldn’t get any better. The 2016 FIAT 500X just received the Top Safety Pick+ rating for 2016 by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The 500X received the highest score possible in every category, earning itself the highest overall rating awarded by the IIHS.

According to IIHS protocol, a vehicle must come equipped with Auto Emergency Braking technology that achieves ratings of “advanced” or “superior” to receive the merit of Top Safety Pick+. Auto Emergency Braking is a vehicle safety technology that has the potential to prevent or reduce the impact of collisions. AEB technology in the 2016 FIAT 500X is known as Forward Collision Warning-Plus and earned an “advanced” rating.

In addition to earning an “advanced” or “superior” AEB rating, a vehicle must earn the highest rating possible in all five crashworthiness test — small overlap collision, moderate overlap collision, side impact, roof strength and head restraints — to qualify as a Top Safety Pick+. 2016 marked the first year vehicles had to receive top marks in the small overlap collision test. The 2016 FIAT 500X earned the highest possible rating of “good” in every category.
